Adele rises to the occasion

We are thrilled to announce that Dawson Shanahan sponsored local junior athlete Adele Nicoll has recorded a new personal best in the shot-put and finished 8th in the European Athletics Junior Championships.

Shot-putter Adele initially qualified for the European Athletics Junior Championships with a personal best of just over 15m, but rose to the occasion brilliantly at the championships to record a throw of 15.55m in the final to secure 8th place. This new personal best is a Welsh junior record and ranks Adele as the number one in the women’s U20s shot-put rankings and fourth in the senior rankings.

“I’m really happy with my performance at the junior championships. Last year was challenging in many ways so to reach the final and achieve a new personal best was a great success,” said Adele. “In September I’ll be joining Cardiff University, which will be the perfect environment to continue my training and the development of my technique. My coach and I both feel I can make a lot more progress and contend with the seniors soon.”

Commenting on Adele’s achievement, Les Reeves, Joint Managing Director at Dawson Shanahan, said: “We’re all so pleased for Adele; she has delivered on the big stage when it mattered most and looks to be going from strength to strength. We’re delighted to have helped Adele in her incredible journey so far and look forward to seeing what the future holds for her.”

Following her excellent performance at the European Athletics Junior Championships, Adele will be continuing her hard work and training and has her sights set firmly on competing at high profile events in the future, which includes the European Athletics U23 Championships and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
