Fundraising for Aria’s Fight

We’re proud of our team here at Dawson Shanahan, not only for their dedication to engineering excellence but for their efforts beyond the plant but in this instance, going the extra mile with our community outreach. From last year’s Christmas raffle which saw a massive effort to raise an impressive £1090 for the critical work carried out by Wales Air Ambulance to the fundraising support for Severn Hospice’s terminally ill where a further £1,000 was raised. Then most recently, a cause that has meant so much to so many in the local community.

Our Packing Team Leader, Jenny Roberts, and her daughter Amy Hamer, a Quality Technician, alerted us to some shattering news for a local family whose whole world had been turned upside down by a devastating turn of events and this spurred the girls into action to raise awareness and funds to support them.

It was just 2 months ago, when a local Welshpool resident found out that her granddaughter, Aria, had been diagnosed with stage four Neuroblastoma, a rare cancer mostly affecting babies and young children.  Jenny and Amy decided to organise various activities to raise funds to help the family, including raffles and a bingo night which led to a whopping £3000 in raised funds.

The bingo night was an out of work event that was hugely successful with the whole community coming together to support Aria’s family.  Meanwhile, prizes were donated by members of the Dawson Shanahan team and contributions from members of the community and local businesses. From meal and beauty vouchers to gym membership and Shrewsbury Town FC football tickets, it was wonderful to see the spirit and generosity of Welshpool residents (and many from outside the area) in full effect.

Aria’s ongoing treatment for this disease will be brutal so any funds raised will go towards the on-going costs to give this little 2-year old girl the best possible care. To donate to Aria’s cause please CLICK HERE
