Head of Engineering

We’re based in the friendly market town of Welshpool on the England/Wales border. Less than one hour from Snowdonia National Park and the Shropshire Hills, Welshpool is surrounded by the picturesque Welsh countryside. We’re currently looking for a Head of Engineering to join our team.

About the role:
An exciting senior role has become available within the Manufacturing Engineering team at Dawson Shanahan. This is a senior management role overseeing the performance and development of a team of three project engineers responsible for cold forming extrusion tool design, CNC machining, process design and responding to customers RFQs.

A key part of the role will be developing and improving manufacturing solutions to meet customer and contractual requirements to automotive industry standards such as ISO 9001 and IATF16949.

You will have a minimum of five (ideally closer to ten) years’ experience delivering projects safely, to specification, on time and within budget.

This role reports directly to the Managing Director, it offers an opportunity for business travel to other Luvata Group companies globally but primarily in Europe and the USA as well as travel to meet with customers, and tool and machinery suppliers. Experience:

• It least 5 years, ideally 10 years, experience in a senior role covering:
  • Automotive production systems
  • CNC Machine tools
  • Machining tooling and work holding
  • QA procedures
  • High volume manufacturing
• Experience of managing a team and working with other heads of department

Qualifications:

Engineering Degree or above

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the commercial and sales team with technical guidance and quotations
• Manage and report on NPPDI projects
• Ensure that all APQP requirements are met
• Provide detailed process information for customer RFQs.
• Input into and assist with commercial feasibility studies
• Plan resources, manage workloads, and oversee team development
• Conduct processing reviews to optimise technical solutions
• Drive continuous improvement in processes and design solutions
• Oversee engineering team’s financial performance on projects
• Provide technical information to support production
• Manage process development
• Critically assessing new process viability

Working hours:

37 hours per week with an early finish at 12pm on Fridays.
