31 May Our incredible team
It was Helen Keller who said, ‘alone we can do so little; together we can do so much’. And that’s certainly a true reflection of the teamwork that goes on at Dawson Shanahan.
Our team, made up of nearly 100 people, help to represent our values of quality and precision. Through roles in design, development, engineering, quality checking, sales, administration and customer support, we have a lot to offer to our customers.
No day is the same. Our apprentices, for example, get to move across between our training school and different sections of the factory floor, so that each day brings fresh challenges and opportunities. Even though our Production IT Apprentice, Dillon Gill, has only been with us for 18 months, he has experienced a lot during this time. His day-to-day work includes producing precision tooling items for machining processes, programming and setting CNC grinders, lathes and millers, as well as programming conventional, machine tool counterparts.
With the opportunity to work in different departments and progress into higher roles, we like to provide all of our team with room to grow in our business. Our long-standing employees are proof of this. Take Joyce Gwalchmai, our Machine Operator, she’s been with our company for an impressive 14 years and over that time, she has worked on press machines and CNC machines. Joyce also holds the responsibility of being a first aider and plays an important role as part of our health and safety committee.
We also believe that continuous learning development is key to a boosted morale, giving our team the opportunities to flourish as individuals within their field. Our Finance Assistant, Danielle Thomas said, “I appreciate that I am getting the opportunity to gain new qualifications while working here, this is something I have never been given in previous jobs.” Additionally, our Toolmaker, Rowan Davies, who has now been with us for 5 years, said “Dawson Shanahan has given me the support to advance to a higher academic level, allowing me to study to Level 4 HNC Mechanical Engineering.” We believe that the power of knowledge helps our team to grow and we’re grateful so many colleagues are eager to take up the opportunities to educate themselves further in their fields.
Part of great teamwork is about getting along with the team on a less formal level too. In fact, our team find the social comradery one of the best parts of the job! Our Quality Technician, Amy Hamer, said “I have met some amazing people over the years and made some great friends” and our newest member of the team, Quality Manager, Health, Safety and Environmental Officer, Paul Davidson said “the entire team at Dawson Shanahan made me feel very welcome and easy for me to settle in from the first day.”
We appreciate every member of our team and we’re so proud of everything they’ve achieved from our colleagues, old and new, over our 80-year history. We’ve only highlighted a small snippet of a much wider team here. So, be sure to keep up-to-date with our LinkedIn and Facebook pages to discover our ‘Meet The Team’ features which we share at the end of every month!
