She’s our champion

Let’s not wish the year away but 2021 is only a few weeks away and with that brings new promise, new beginnings. For most of us, 2020 has been a challenging set of circumstances to say the least – with lockdown, furloughs, adapting to ever changing rules and it’s still not over.

For  local  professional  athlete, Adele Nicholls, who we proudly sponsor, her year competing in championships has effectively been at a standstill. Due to Covid-19 she decided not to compete for the 2020 athletics season. So, her next competition will hopefully (such uncertain times) be in January 2021.

Shot-putter, 24-year-old Adele, epitomises everything that Dawson Shanahan stands for: dedication, focus and precision and despite everything this year, she was able to channel her energy into her studies. Her commitment and drive were realised in July when she earned a distinction in Psychology MSc Degree. She also tried a new sport…Bobsleigh! She tried this for the first time in August and with just 6 weeks of training, then trialled and got selected for a GB training camp in Germany. And yes, the Olympics is definitely her goal.

She explains: 2024 was always the Olympics I had in sight. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do with Bobsleigh now and also looking forward to competing in athletics in 2021! The Europeans are next year now and also the Winter Olympics is 2022 – this may be a new goal of mine!
